My name is Jolyn, and I am the owner of this little business and project called Actspressions.
When I was 19 years old, I was diagnosed with clinical depression; and so hospitals, suicidal tendencies, anti-depressants and the whole sense of despair and hopelessness are familiar things to me. I was suicidal, broken and I lost all hope.
It was a long and painful struggle, but with the encouragement and love from my friends and family, I made up my mind to see a counsellor. I was determined to fight this depression which was eating my soul up. I did eventually overcome it, but it was not just me who fought but the people who loved me who fought for me. They did not perform miracles or do dramatic things — it was the small things they did that eventually saved my life.
After my recovery, I wanted tell people that there is hope, there is freedom, there is healing and true joy. And so, Actspressions was borne in 2012. Actspressions is a movement — a movement about doing small things with great love.
I hope that love, joy and hope can be shared through a handwritten card or note, and that encouraging messages can be spread through practical and usable stationery and art.
I know nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something. This is my something, my gift back to the world.
It’s nothing great and big and noble, it’s just a little bit that I would like to do to bring hope to people. And I think it’s okay, that it’s just a little something, because it’s little things that occupy the biggest parts of our hearts.
We may not be able to do great things, but we can do small things with great love. Small Actspressions, but with tremendous love.
I hope these products will bless whoever receives it, and bring hope, joy and love. One of my favourite quotes in the world comes from 1 Corinthians 13 from the Bible, and it says “Love never fails”.
Indeed, it never does.
